Mountain Athletic Conference Members vote on 2020 Football Schedule

By Tim Towe , 05/08/20, 10:15AM EDT

Mountain Athletic Conference members on Wednesday May 8th had a meeting online via Zoom to discuss plans for the 2020 Football Season.  The Mountain Athletic Conference is closely monitoring the developments related to COVID-19 and following guidelines set by the CDC, local and state government and GHSA.  If GHSA don’t allow football this Summer/Fall, then it will be highly unlikely that the Mountain Athletic Conference will have a football season. We are very hopeful though that a season will happen in some capacity.  Players, Coaches, Fan, and Game Day staff safety remains our primary focus.  Because the situation changes almost daily and could be different in each area where the Conference operates, our approach is to remain creative, and adaptable to how each situation unfolds throughout the entire League.  When Football can safely be played in the MAC, it will be played.

On Wednesday, Board members voted for 2 schedule options with a July practice start date.  The other option is an August practice start date if the league is unable to get the all clear to practice.  New for the 2020 season the league has voted to put in 7v7 for 9U-8th grade. Dates of Importance are as follows: July 13 Conditioning may begin, July 23rd 1st 7v7 date, August 10th Full Pads, Aug 22nd and Aug 29th Jamborees, Sept 5th League Bye Week, Sept 12th Games, Nov 7th Semi Finals, Nov 14th MFL Super Bowl 4.   The current plan right now is listed below. All this of course is subject to change.  (If the league doesn’t get clearance to practice in July, we will release our other schedule that has us starting in August.)
